STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
At the threshold of what I imagine to be an opportunity to test and transcend the realms of scientific discovery, I stand to make the following observations regarding my present educational background and my future intentions.
Academic Background
I have always aspired to choose a career that would mean work that stimulates me and holds a natural appeal to me. In my Undergraduate studies, I have benefited from the breadth of syllabi content that has given me a comprehensive exposure to the core areas of Computer Science and Engineering and a strong conceptual understanding of the same. In these four years of study, I have strived to maintain an approach of expending independent effort in all my endeavors. Learning by myself and sharing my knowledge with others has been most worthwhile, when comprehending a concept. I have always improved in my academics right from school to undergraduate course. Academically, I am comfortably placed among the top 6 percentage of my class. As an active member of our college committee, I have taken interest in organizing various seminars, workshops and symposia for the students of the college that helped me to gain expertise in English language skills, communication skills and Leadership skills.
Why Higher Studies
When the ultimate objective is specialization, an undergraduate education is definitely deficient. A deeper understanding of the intricacies demands a research-oriented graduate education. (Not to know is bad, but not to wish to know is worse). I wish to pursue graduate studies at the Northern Illinois University not only as a means for developing my skills and capabilities to conduct original thinking and independent study but also as a means of channeling my enthusiasm, energy and vigor for doing some really useful research work.
(A ship in harbor is safe - but that is not what ships are for). My ambition to come to the US for the MS program doesn’t arise as a result of dearth of resources in India, but lack of technical know-how to exploit these resources. An international Master’s degree from a reputed American university not only fulfils my interests but also gives an edge over my peers back in my country. To widen my perspective of subject knowledge and also to put my talent to rigorous testing, I feel it is the best opportunity and the right time to approach US through a university as esteemed as yours.
Why Your University
The field of Computer Science encompasses several disciplines in which world-class research and spectacular progress has been at a brisk pace. I would like to be a cog albeit small but significant in this wheel of technical evolution and with this goal of making original contribution to the field of Computer Science, I desire to pursue graduate studies at XXXXXX. I find the challenge of tackling real-life problems and solving them using various quantitative and analytical techniques very satisfying and stimulating.
An environment overflowing with academic activity and latest facilities supplemented by an esteemed faculty propelled me to choose Northern Illinois University. The inspiring appeal of your scientific community and the possibility of interaction with the very best in my field of study are the other factors that constrained me to apply for my graduate studies at your university. The freedom of your academic institution provides an environment favorable to research and offers broad scope for teaching. A research career would expose me continually to the latest and most challenging problems in CS and would keep me at the frontiers of new knowledge at all times. Teaching exposes one to new doubts and ideas and is an ideal complement to research.

As an upcoming graduate, my dream is to specialize in the field of Computer Science. I am keen on working in the areas of Computer Networks, Computer Graphics, and Database Management Systems. The profound implication of advanced technological sciences and the scope for innovation in the field of is a strong source of inspiration to me.
